Home Made Deep Brown Baked Beans

Warm your stomach with an old recipe this winter!

sauté in grape seed oil:
1 finely chopped sautéed onion
2 celery sticks finely chopped
4 strips coarsely chopped bacon (optional)
salt & pepper to taste
1 tsp celery salt
2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp chili flakes
2 tsp fennel or anise seed powder


Add 6 cups dried navy beans, cover with water and boil until tender (about 1 1/2-2 hours) (1 cup dry beans: 3 cups water)
Add 1 can tomato sauce
1 can tomato paste
¼ c black strap molasses
1/2 c pure maple syrup

When beans are tender transfer into casserole pan and bake 350f approx 1 hour. You may want too add some water for a richer sauce as you bake.

Freezes well.
