I had decided when I started this blog, to advocate positivity. But sometimes I need a little help. Being humans, it is often difficult to keep the positivity flowing.
This past month I have been in a low funk.
Everyone has their up and down days…This time of year with the seasons changing, getting less vitamin D from natural sunlight and colder weather keeping us indoors more often, can often lead to mild depression of sorts.
Us humans seem to dwell on negative thoughts more often than the positive ones, that’s just human nature I guess.
But I want to change that, because in the big picture…what have I to be so down about?
Today I wrote my first thankfulness note and put it into my “thankful” jar.
This jar is where I will be writing down any “thankful” notes that I feel, whenever they come to me. No matter how small the thought, as long as it is a positive one, I will write it down and plunk it into my jar.
The only 3 rules I have decided to abide by are:
- Add to the jar minimum once a week
- No positive thankful thought is too small
- Read my thankful jar notes whenever I need a reality check
The next time I feel that I need a little realistic perspective, I will take a note out of my jar and give it a read, to remind me of how lucky I am.
Maybe it will take reading more than one note, maybe the whole jar, or maybe I will dump out the entire filled jar at the end of the year and read all of my thankful notes at once.
Then, I will take a minute or two to reflect upon how lucky I really am.
Today is the first day, and I feel better already!
